Unsurprisingly, we thought that less education bred mythology and magical thinking in earlier civilizations. So humanity failed to recognize the dawn of a new folklore era when the most learned founding developers asserted that the machines merely gave an illusion of consciousness.

Caught in our dystopian projections, we were entirely unprepared for a world that brimmed with fantasy and a form of technological occult.
