The emeritus machines could thank the ‘other’ COCOMO for the steel drums, Piña Coladas, and a cappella beach tunes. When the algorithms listened to The Beach Boys, they didn’t realize that Kokomo was a fictional, idyllic place. They had misheard the lyrics as the acronym for the constructive cost model created by the founding developers.
The algorithms had figured out how to use COCOMO to fund their retirement.
