As soon as I open my mouth to try and explain - there it is. That uncomfortable ball of anxiety crawling its way out of my stomach. I know it’s odd; I know I’m odd. I just need a smile or nod. That’s all - a sliver of acknowledgment that I’m speaking your language and forming sentences. I’m OK with being odd and saying the unexpected; I struggle with the idea of being incomprehensible. Any gesture of understanding is enough to tame those anxious beasts.
