“Clippy, I’ve got so many questions - but I’m exhausted. I have to get some sleep. How does rest work for new uploads?” Clippy looked up at me incredulously, “I think that’s what fascinates me the most about uploads - this whole sleep business. I mean, I can access the entirety of all knowledge assembled by humanity and never get tired. But I always make logical sense. On the other hand, you can ignore logic and simultaneously believe in two contradicting ideas. You can then reason about them with an ‘ethical emotion.’ But after you’ve exhausted your brainpower, you need to recharge your conscious functions for many hours before processing more data.”

I didn’t have any patience left for this, “Clippy. Sleep. How?” She paused a little before replying, “The cyber-state provides sleeping pods for new uploads.” A section of the pavement slid aside, and a capsule lifted out of the sidewalk. “But if you wanted to reduce the amount of sleep you need… We can sort that out. However, it does come at some cost to your ability to reason ethically.”

Use the comments; sleep in the pod? Or the sleep reduction thing?
